ACTIVEly support YMCA Burton this June!
Ready to take on a new challenge?
Join us in June and complete 50 miles within 30 days
We are a lifeline for those facing homelessness and also for thousands of individuals and
families living in crisis across East Staffordshire.
However, we cannot do what we do without your help. Support us by getting active in June and raising both awareness
and vital funds to help us ensure that we can continue delivering our key services to those who desperately need
them in our local community.
How does it work?
With summer fast approaching and the warm weather on its way (fingers crossed!), challenge yourself to get active in June by completing 50 miles in 30 days while also raising vital funds and awareness for YMCA Burton! You also have the flexibility of doing it in whatever way suits you best. So, whether you’d prefer to walk, run, swim, cycle, go to a fitness or yoga class, the choice is yours! As long as you complete the 50 miles within June (and you have fun, of course!), that’s the main aim of the challenge.
When you register and set up your fundraising page, we will send you a couple of resources such as a free activity tracker as well as an activity converter (to convert your chosen activities into miles) to help get you started. You’ll also receive an ACTIVElyYMCA badge to wear during your challenge to proudly show others that you’re supporting YMCA Burton.
So, what are you waiting for? Sign up for FREE today and help us to continue making a difference to thousands of lives in our local community.*
Why 50 miles?
As a charity covering the whole of East Staffordshire, we support individuals and families from every corner of the borough through our range of vital services preventing and tackling homelessness, as well as supporting people and families in crisis. A central part of this support in tackling homelessness is our Outreach service which involves our Outreach Navigator and a team of volunteers going out every fortnight in the early hours of the morning looking for rough sleepers on the streets of Burton on Trent. Members of the public are also able to call us if they see someone sleeping rough, and we will go out to offer support as quickly as possible.
The number to call if you see a rough sleeper in East Staffordshire is: 0800 130 3415
So, why 50 miles? 50 miles is the distance from our main site, Reconnect, on James Street to Yoxall, then Abbots Bromley, Uttoxeter, Rocester and back, as well as the loop around Burton town centre that our Outreach team cover regularly. The area that we cover is much larger than this, however by highlighting an array of areas, we are emphasising how homelessness isn’t just visible in the towns and cities, but is also in the rural villages too.
Homelessness is everywhere and doesn’t discriminate, whether it be rough sleeping on the streets or hidden homelessness through sofa surfing. This is why we are here to support people from all corners of the borough 365 days of the year, 24/7 and the reason why we won’t ever give up.
* *Please note: If taking part in a group, we kindly ask that every member of your team (except for under 18s) registers separately with their own contact details so that we can ensure that everyone is kept up to date with information on the challenge! If everyone could state their team name when registering, we can then identify each team.
