Local Burton MP, Jacob Collier, has been appointed Parliamentary Patron for YMCA England & Wales. Last month, Jack Chesterman & Caroline Foster presented him with a certificate to welcome him to the role whilst at Westminster Abbey. The parliamentary patron programme is there to create advocates for both the national YMCA and local YMCAs within parliament.

“It was great to meet with Jacob Collier MP and hear about his passion for the work that YMCA Burton does to support the community. We look forward to continuing to work with Jacob to give young people a voice in parliament.” – Jack Chesterman, Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager

Jacob was born in Burton-upon-Trent, and attended schools within the area before going on to study politics at the University of Nottingham. He became chair of Nottingham Labour Students union before graduating in 2018. Being a Patron of YMCA England & Wales means he will work with YMCA in Parliament, as well as being an advocate for his local YMCA at home. As a Patron, Jacob joins part of the long history of YMCA, which has been honoured to serve the people of England and Wales and globally for more than 180 years. Through war, economic depression and a global pandemic, YMCA has endured and been humbled to serve all who need us.

Parliamentary Patrons are a broad group of both Members of Parliament and Peers across the parties of England and Wales, who work today to support the continued and enduring work of the YMCA. We are excited to hear that Jacob has been appointed and look forward to seeing positive change in the future.

When asked about his experience with the YMCA and what it means to be working with the oldest youth charity in the world, Jacob stated:

“I’m delighted to be on board as YMCA’s latest Parliamentary patron. The team do fantastic work across my constituency of Burton and Uttoxeter, including helping the homeless, working with young people on their skills development, and promoting social responsibility. YMCA’s generosity and selfless work is valuable to so many across England and Wales, and I look forward to continuing my work with them to help wherever I can.”

We are thrilled to have Jacob onboard, to support the YMCA’s work and help further both our reach and cause to help individuals and families throughout England & Wales.
